Family Child Care

What is Family Child Care?
Family Child Care (FCC) offers care for your children in a warm, nurturing home environment. FCC providers must meet stringent requirements. They are required to be over 18 years of age, able to read and speak English, and in good mental and physical health. They also must pass a comprehensive background check (including family members) and complete a basic orientation program prior to licensing. Providers must complete the 15 Air Force standardized training modules equating to approximately 60 hours of training. This is similar to the training required of Child Development Center employees.

Opportunity:
FCC licensing offers spouse of active duty or retired a chance to contribute to the family income while developing a career which can relocate with them. Licensing qualifies individuals to provide child care on Air Force bases or seek employment with Air Force Child Development Centers. Eligible providers can supplement their income through the Child Care Food Program (CCFP) which is administered by the USDA. Contact the office for orientation class dates.

Specialty Programs:
Extended Duty Care - For parents who work extended hours, experience a shift change, or who are in need of temporary help, child care is provided in contracted Family Child Care Homes at nominal or no cost to members.
Returning Home Care - Members who return from an extended duty are granted a limited number of hours of free child care so they can spend time with spouses and catch up on family duties.
PCS Care - For more information please contact the Base Family Support Center for certificates to be used for 20 hours of free child care in a Family Child Care Home.
Mildly Ill Care - Using the specially contracted Air Force licensed or affiliated Family Child Care Homes, this program provides care for children ages 12 and under with mild illnesses and conditions that prevent them from using their usual group care.
