RACE DESCRIPTION:     Come put your mountain biking skills to the test at our 13 mile mountain bike race on USAFA’s Falcon Trail. The race will begin at the trailhead across from Burger King with all race participants lined up with one of their intertubes in their hands. They will then have to install and inflate before beginning the Falcon Trail. Racers will loop counter clockwise, and finish at the base picnic. Falcon Trail is mostly single track with very scenic views and plenty of challenges. This race contains quite a bit of climbing, most at quite rideable grades. There are many switchbacks, jumps and descents to provide riders with the full spectrum of mountain biking. Along the way, spectacular views provide diversion from the ride’s effort. “Falcon Fat Tire Race” will challenge your skills as a competitor as well as a mountain biker.

WHAT TO BRING:        Off-road bike in good operational condition, helmet (mandatory), water, sunscreen, and sunglasses, tools (must be mechanically self-sufficient. Front and Dual suspension bikes are available to rent for $20 call 333-4753 to reserve. Tools will not be provided!

WHAT TO WEAR:        Apparel appropriate for the sport and dress in layers. Bike gloves and padded shorts can make your ride much more comfortable. Avoid cotton clothing.  Most of all, Dress For The Weather!

POSSIBLE RISKS:        Sunburn and dehydration are the biggest threat.  Control your speed on downhills. Dress appropriately and drink lots of water.

POSSIBLE HAZARDS:    This ride takes place on the Falcon Trail which is dirt, sand, and rocks. The trail also crosses some paved roads, so oncoming and passing cars are something to watch out for. To stay alert and be able hear traffic we ask that you leave your headsets and radios at home.  Steep cliffs, sandy corners and holes are possible. Use caution, staying on the path and following the marked trail will reduce the possibility for injury. Stay in control.
