The new entrance at Farish recreation area is open. Signs on Rampart Range Road will clearly mark the route to Farish, as they have in the past.
This new entrance will really improve access to Farish in the winter, said the chief of Combat Support Flight that oversees Farish operations. People wont have to be quite as concerned with heavy snowfalls as they have been in the past because the new entrance has a flat grade coming into the facility.
The new entrance is just one phase of the master plan for Farish. The old entrance sloped down into Farish making the road difficult and dangerous to negotiate in winter. It was congested and had erosion and drainage problems, all of which will be addressed in the next phase of the plan. The old entrance will be reclaimed and returned to its natural state upon completion of the improvements, Stevens said.
Its a major project, but its essential, he said. And, it will certainly add to the quality of outdoor experience we can offer to members of our military family.

Left, the top map shows the route to Farish from Colorado Springs. Note: To reach the new entrance to Farish you must now make a right at the water tanks on Rampart Range Road.
The lower map at left shows Farishs three lakes and various facilities. Farish is located about an hours drive from the Academy. Take Highway 24 west to Woodland Park, make a right at McDonalds and continue several miles until you see the signs for Farish. Always call to check weather conditions, 687-9098, before leaving for Farish.
