Effective Oct. 1 there will be no more funded retesting of DANTES exams and certification tests.  Members can still take re-take exams, but will be required to pay for them themselves. Therefore, it is now more important than ever to study for exams! There are a number of free resources available to help you, such as the Online Academic Skills Course (OASC) to brush up on your math and English skills accessed at www.petersons.com/oasc. You can also use tutor.com, an online program in which you are paired with a professional tutor to help you with all math, science, social studies and English subjects free of charge. Just drop by the USAFA library to get registered, it only takes a few minutes! While you are there, don't forget to check out the free DANTES exams study guides. If you have any questions, please call the Education Office at 333-3298.


There will be two Rated Boards and one Non Rated Board this year.

  1. Applications for the first Rated Board must be received by Fri., March 12. The Board will convene April 19-23 and projected release date is Fri., June 4.
  2. Applications for the second Rated Board must be received by Fri., Sept. 10. That Board convenes Oct. 18-22, and the projected release date is Dec. 3.
  3. Applications for the only Non Rated Board must be received by June 11.  This Board will convene July 19-23. The projected release date is Sept. 3.

Scholarships for Outstanding Airmen to ROTC (SOAR):

The Scholarships for Outstanding Airman to ROTC (SOAR) offers active duty enlisted personnel the opportunity to earn a commission while completing their bachelor's degree as an Air Force ROTC cadet.

Those selected separate from the active duty Air Force, join an Air Force ROTC detachment and become a full-time college student. The Air Force provides them with a tuition/fees scholarship of up to $18,000 per year, an annual textbook allowance of $900, and a monthly nontaxable stipend of $250-$500. Students may not pay the difference to attend higher cost schools. This scholarship will be awarded for two to four years, depending on how many years you have remaining in your bachelor's degree program. Airmen with some or no college credit may apply for the program. A limited number of SOAR selects will be offered a scholarship with no tuition cap.

This program is open to students in ANY MAJOR.

Upon graduation and completion of the program, you will be commissioned as a second lieutenant and will then be returned to active duty (typically within 60 days of commissioning) with military obligation of 4 yrs active/4 yrs Reserves.

The deadline for waivers is 15 July 2010, so please do not delay.

The National Association for Military Education Services (NAIMES) is pleased to announce the 2010 NAIMES Student Spotlight Award program.  The purpose of the Student Spotlight Award is to recognize an undergraduate or graduate student who demonstrates excellent academic achievement in pursuit of their postsecondary civilian education.  Eligible participants are active duty personnel from all service branches using federal tuition assistance funding.  ROTC students, military academy students and those who are using special tuition assistance programs are not eligible to apply.  Current students are encouraged to submit an application and project to compete for one of three $1,200 cash awards. 

The categories are:

1. Undergraduate students with less than 60 college credits earned.

2. Undergraduate students with 60 or more college credits earned.

3. Graduate students.
