United States Air Force Academy to Honor Volunteers
21 April 2010
United States Air Force Academy volunteers who share their time and talents to make a difference in our military and local communities will be honored with a special Volunteer Recognition Awards Ceremony to be held on 21 April, from 3-4:30 pm, at the Falcon Club.
Light Hors d'oeuvres will be served beginning at 3:00 and official ceremony will commence at 3:30.
The Academy Community is invited to attend and support our outstanding volunteers.
This year's theme "Hands That Serve, Hearts That Care" sets the stage for the Academy to not only recognize and applaud volunteer efforts but also to encourage others to get involved in helping strengthen their communities. The four award categories are: Volunteer Excellence Award, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, Outstanding Academy Volunteer Service Awards, and the President's Lifetime Volunteer Service Award.
The Volunteer Excellence Award was established to recognize federal civilians, family members, and military and federal retirees who perform outstanding volunteer community service of a sustained, direct and consequential nature. This prestigious award recognizes exceptional long-term community support and not a single act or achievement.
The Military Outstanding Service Medal is awarded to members of the United States Armed Forces and their Reserve components who perform outstanding volunteer community service, significant in nature and producing tangible results. The service must reflect favorably on the service member and the Department of Defense.
Retirees, family members/civilians, their children (youth category), Key Spouses, and cadets/cadet candidates are eligible to be nominated in the Outstanding Academy Volunteer category. The nominee must have actively volunteered time and efforts to an Academy or local community agency from 1 January 2009-31 December 2009. Nominees should be all around contributors to their organization(s) and have improved the quality of life for all members. Volunteers will be evaluated on length of volunteer service, active involvement, commitment, and community impact. One winner from each classification will be selected.
The President's Lifetime Volunteer Service Award will also be presented. The recipients of this award are nominated by USAF Academy Volunteer Agency Coordinators.
Nomination(s) deadline is Friday, 9 April 2010, 4:30 pm. More information or nomination packets can be obtained from Jeannie Lopez, Academy Volunteer Resource Program Manager, (719) 333-3444.
