STARTING ENGINE

*HOT START – Pump throttle once and then open 1 inch

  2. Throttle -------- PUMP ONCE, THEN OPEN 1/8  INCH

  3. Carburetor Heat ---------------------------------------- COLD

            *HOT START – Do not use primer!

  4. Primer -----------------------------------------AS REQUIRED

  5. Master Switch ----------------------------------------------- ON

  6. Rotating Beacon -------------------------------- VERIFY ON

  7. Propeller Area ---------------------------------------- CLEAR

            (Shout Warning and Clear Area 360°)

 8. Ignition Switch ---------------------------------------- START

                      (release when engine starts)

If engine fails to start within 10 blades, discontinue cranking and allow starter to cool for two minutes.

  9. Throttle ---------------------------------------------- 1000 RPM

  9. Magnetos ----------------------------------------------- CHECK

             (check right first, 125 max drop / 50 max diff)

10. Carburetor Ice Detector Switch ------------------------- ON

11. Sensitivity Knob ----- FULL COUNTER-CLOCKWISE

12. Red Warning Light ----------------------------- CHECK ON

13. Sensitivity Knob --------- CLOCKWISE until light is out

      Note: This is the critical setting for ice detection and

                 should be maintained during flight. If necessary

                 refer to Flight Manual in the back of AC book

14. Throttle ---------------- IDLE CHECK, THEN 1000 RPM

15. Mixture (push only) ----------------- ENRICHEN ¼ INCH

 or when beginning take-off  roll .

            (until all obstacles are cleared, then use

 normal climb or Vx or Vy as required)

 

SOFT FIELD TAKE-OFF

 

  1. Wing Flaps --------------------------------------------------- 10°

  2. Carburetor Heat ---------------------------------------- COLD

  3. Brakes --------------------------------------- DO NOT APPLY

  4. Power as necessary to keep rolling.

  5. Elevator Control ------------------------------- FULL BACK

  6. Throttle ------------------------------------------ FULL OPEN

( when aligned with the runway)

  7. Elevator Control -------------------------------------- RELAX

            ( after nose wheel is clear off the ground)

  8. RPM (2300) / Oil Pressure / Airspeed ----------- CHECK

  9. When airborne level off immediately and accelerate to

      normal climb speed of 80 MPH using ground effect.

10. Flaps ---------------------------------- RETRACT at 80 MPH
